Ñ, or ñ (Spanish: eñe, [ˈeɲe]), is a letter of the modern Latin alphabet, formed by placing a tilde (also referred to as a virgulilla in Spanish, in order to differentiate it from other diacritics, which are also called tildes) on top of an upper- or lower-case ⟨n⟩.

N is the symbol of Nitrogen.

The only letter in the Spanish alphabet that originated in Spain, the Ñ is not only a letter but a representation of Hispanic heritage and identity as well. The Ñ's story started with 12th-century Spanish scribes.
